There are plentiful Christmas markets this year - meaning you can shop local and support independent stall holders, artisans and designers by buying your gifts direct from the makers.

Plus many have extras - lights, music, mulled wine, Christmas trails and perhaps a chance to meet Father Christmas

First up: happening in Margate:

Margate Old Town Christmas Fayre

Claus family, kids get to decorate the Christmas tree, singing from the Social Singing Choir, meet the local traders at the market.

Margate Christmas Fair

Market stalls, live dance and music performances, Santa’s Grotto. Be there before 6pm to see the Christmas tree lights get switched on at Cecil Square in Margate Old Town.

Broadstairs Christmas Market at Pierremont Hall

Market and choirs in Broadstairs. On the Portico Stage there will be school and local choirs singing all day, and there will be a children’s fun area with a fair ride and game stall open from midday. Children can decorate Christmas gingerbread shapes and have fun with our arts and crafts in the Music Room. At 6pm everyone is invited to join in the Christmas Carol singing around the old Victorian lantern.

For that really traditional Christmas market atmosphere you can’t beat Canterbury’s famous annual market, with wooden chalets aplenty, lots of delicious food and Santa’s Grotto.

A Magical Advent Fair at New School Canterbury

A beautiful Advent Fair in a magical setting in the middle of the Kent Downs, just 45 minutes from Margate. Brilliant for children and adults. Featuring a myriad of Christmas stalls selling handmade gifts and toys, crystals, candles, crafts, artisan food and wreaths. Kids can decorate gingerbread, enjoy visiting the Gnome Home, do some candle dipping or decorate the beautiful candle lake. Cafe with lots of scrumptious cakes, carol singing around the fire, puppet shows, music and a lantern parade.
